Just a short drive from Bibione, you can embark on organised or independent excursions to discover historical sites, unusual landscapes and picturesque views, all accompanied by excellent local cuisine and world-renowned wines.
Concordia Sagittaria: in this rural town, you can admire the traces of over two thousand years of history, evident in one of the most fascinating Roman and early Christian archaeological sites in the area. Concordia Sagittaria was an important Roman colony, as evidenced by the ruins of the Roman bridge, the theatre, the forum and the thermal baths. Moreover, there are also numerous traces of the Byzantine era, such as the mosaics in the basilica and the baptistery. A short distance away lies Sesto al Reghena, where you can admire a Benedictine abbey built by the Lombards, set amidst a fairytale landscape.
Continuing along the route, you reach Portogruaro, a charming town founded in the 12th century where time seems to have stood still for centuries; as you stroll beneath its picturesque arcades, the town will reveal its exquisite views, which bear witness to the ancient Venetian splendour of the 15th–16th-century noble residences. Not to mention far more famous destinations such as Venice, Aquileia, Trieste and Udine, all just an hour’s drive from Bibione.
These are just a few examples; at every turn, this land, stretching between rivers, lagoon and sea, presents visitors with a slice of history, but it also offers numerous welcoming places to stop along the Wine Route, through the countryside of Veneto and Friuli.
